Covid-19 Threatens the Heart

An in-depth analysis of health data in the United States found that people who had been infected with Covid-19
had a 55 percent higher risk of developing long-term cardiovascular complications. These complications include heart rhythm disturbances, heart inflammation, blood clots, stroke, coronary artery disease, heart attack, heart failure or even death. This finding adds to the long list of Covid-19 that must be watched out for. Moreover, the risk of complications from heart problems can be experienced by individuals who were previously healthy and only experienced Covid-19 infection with mild symptoms. The study of the long-term effects of Covid-19 was carried out by a team of researchers from the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and Veterans Affairs St. Louis Health Care System. The results were published in the journal Nature Medicine. "Covid-19 can cause serious cardiovascular complications and death. The heart does not regenerate or easily recover after damage. It is a disease that will affect people for life," said Ziyad Al-Aly, assistant professor of medicine at Washington University and senior author. this report, in a written statement. "For people who are clearly at risk of developing heart disease prior to SARS-CoV-2 infection, these findings suggest that Covid-19 may increase that risk," said Al-Aly.
