Quality Content, Vibrant Media
This was raised in the National Mass Media Convention with the theme “Building Media Relative Independence Amid Digital Platforms” which was held in Kendari.
This hybrid convention is part of a series of events for National Press Day 2022. Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD becomes keynote speaker as well as opening the second day of the convention. Apart from Mahfud, the speakers were Andy Budiman, Group CEO of Media Kompas Gramedia; Uni Zulfiani Lubis, Editor-in-Chief of IDN Times; and Chairul Tanjung, CEO of CT Corp. Arifin Arsyad, Chief Editor of Kumparan was also present; Deputy President Director of PT Emtek, Sutanto Haryono; and a member of the Press Council, Agus Sudibyo. Mahfud said, if you want to continue to be sustainable and be trusted by the public, the press should not practice journalism that oversimplifies the process and reduces quality. For example, writing without confirmation, writing unilaterally or not covering both sides, giving the wrong meaning to an event, choosing sources that are not credible, and the practice of chasing clicks (clickbait) by making news headlines that are tempting, but deviate from the meaning. “The good news is that in this survey, Indonesia is ranked second in the world in terms of trust in the media. First China and third place Thailand. The survey shows that Indonesia's public trust in the media reaches 73 percent. This figure is up 1 percent compared to the previous year," he said. However, in another survey, Indonesia ranks second in terms of the level of public anxiety about fake news.
