Citizen Discipline is Crucial

The Chief Executive of the Task Force for the Acceleration of Handling Covid-19,
Doni Monardo, again reminded President Jokowi's assertion that Indonesia did not impose a lockdown or regional quarantine, but social restrictions. According to him, what is needed now is collective awareness that Covid-19 is dangerous and that transmission is easy and fast. "Let's be disciplined together by keeping our distance, not making crowds or gatherings with large numbers of people. Only national discipline will keep us safe," said Doni. According to Doni, the President's order on social restrictions must be translated by regional heads. So far, the social restrictions that have been carried out by the regional government are closing schools and lectures, urging not to carry out worship activities in groups, calling for work from home, and temporarily closing entertainment venues, such as cinemas and amusement parks. Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian asked the regional government to prevent Covid-19 by eliminating social and religious mass organizations and efforts to gather large numbers of people. "The Minister of Home Affairs will have a teleconference on Monday with the governor to monitor the actions of regional heads," said the Special Staff of the Minister of Home Affairs, Kastorius Sinaga. Executive Director of the Monitoring Committee for the Implementation of Regional Autonomy, Robert Endi Jaweng, said the local government needs to exercise discretion to ensure that residents comply with social restrictions. The local government needs to give sanctions to office leaders who have not implemented a work from home policy. According to the Head of the National Police's Security Maintenance Agency, Commissioner General Agus Andrianto, the Police have the discretion to dissolve prohibited events according to the announcement by the Chief of Police.
